About Us

Mitch Green

Owner / Camp Director

Mitch grew up in Virginia Beach, VA as the son of a naval officer and developed a love for the ocean and the natural world at an early age. He spent his youth competitive swimming, surfing, fishing, skating, wakeboarding and making core memories with his neighborhood friends, many of which still remain his good friends today. At 15, Mitch’s first job was as a lifeguard at his neighborhood pool, which continued every summer until he left for college. At James Madison University, he continued his lifeguarding and safety career at the University Recreation Center, eventually supervising operations and training others to become lifeguard and CPR-certified.

Upon graduating in 2013, he moved to Charlottesville, VA, where the local mountain streams, lakes and rivers satisfied his itch to be on the water, and he found new passions in fly fishing, kayaking, hiking, camping, and teaching others about fishing and the outdoors. After 10 years of working his way up the corporate ladder in the music and apparel industries, Mitch decided it was time to unchain from the desk life and get back outside, becoming a Head Counselor and then Camp Director for Virginia Outside. Mitch found teaching the next generation about fishing and the natural world such fulfilling work, that he purchased the Charlottesville camp division in November 2025, and is now the Owner and Camp Director for Virginia Outside camps in Charlottesville, operating under Charlottesville Fishing & Adventure Camps, LLC.

Tee Clarkson

Founder

After starting Virginia Fishing Adventures summer camp in 2005, Tee Clarkson has spent the summers guiding youngsters into countless fish, and more importantly, many enjoyable days outside. Virginia Outside seemed a natural progression based on his love of the James River Park and desire for children to have the opportunity to spend quality time outdoors. Tee has written more than 500 articles on fishing, hunting, and conservation in Virginia for publications like The Richmond Times Dispatch, Virginia Wildlife, and The Virginia Sportsman. Though no longer the owner of Virginia Outside, Tee’s legacy inspires us all. He now owns and operates a conservation consulting business, Atoka Conservation Exchange, where he works with landowners to protect properties throughout the state.
